OUR STORY

How much does a polar bear weigh? Just enough to break the ice!

We met unexpectedly at a mimosa brunch in the Castro. We were both with separate groups and spotted each other across the room – but Gaby was skeptical since they were in a notorious gay bar (a fact that San Francisco-newbie Travis and his buddies may or may not have realized). Travis employed USC’s best pickup line (see above!) and left two notes on Gaby’s table on his way out. Fortunately, he forgot his sunglasses inside, giving Gaby the chance to flag him over for a conversation. We clicked and arranged to go out on a first date – and here we are today!

In the six years we’ve been together, we’ve shared monkey adoption scares, ski trips, football games, round the world travels and cohabitation, and in May 2015, Travis suggested making things permanent.

We are so excited, and hope to see you in Sonoma!

This year’s hit Nicholas Sparks movie, The Choice, has audiences everywhere falling in love with the two protagonists – Gaby and Travis.  But below is the true story of the real couple that inspired this cinema sensation:

TRANSPORTATION

FLIGHTS

We suggest flying into San Francisco airport or Oakland airport and renting a car or taking a shuttle to Sonoma.

Driving from either airport to Sonoma takes 1 hour 15 minutes.  This can be longer during rush hour, especially Friday evening.

TAXIS

There are many taxis available in Sonoma.  We recommend Vern’s Taxi Company at (707) 938-8885.

Uber is also available. If you have not tried Uber yet, sign up here and get your first ride free.

SHUTTLES TO THE WEDDING

Busses will pick up at El Pueblo Inn.  First pickup is at 4:00pm, last pickup at 4:15pm. Busses will also run at the end of the night back to hotels and Sonoma Square.

THINGS TO DO IN SONOMA

Hiking

There are many beautiful trails for hiking and biking in Sonoma, including Hood Mountain and Annadel State Park. Be warned – Sonoma gets very hot in the summer.

Wine Tasting

We highly recommend hiring a car or limo for an afternoon of wine tasting. Some of our favorite spots include: Matanzas Creek, Arrowood Winery, Kunde Estates, Imagery Winery (featuring bocce ball), Metlock Ames, and Iron Horse Vineyards.

Canoe the Russian River

Canoeing down the Russian River is one of our favorite Summer activities. We’ve always used River’s Edge Kayak and Canoe and had a blast. Kid, dog and beverage-friendly!

THINGS TO DO IN SAN FRANCISCO

Dolores Park

Spend an afternoon in Dolores Park in the Mission for quality people watching. Pick up pastries at Tartine Bakery, artisanal ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery, or local SF-style baked goodies.

Coit Tower

Coit Tower is a San Francisco landmark, and the home of one of our first dates! Pop up to the top of the Tower for a 360-degree view of the city.

conservatory-of-flowers

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is home to some of the city’s coolest attractions. We love visiting the observation tower in the de Young Museum and the Academy of Sciences.

lands-end

Land’s End

Land’s End is a great hike along the water. Start at the Sutro Baths and hike towards Land’s End for secluded beaches and bridge views.

ferry

Ferry to Sam’s

If it’s foggy in the city, take a 30 minute ferry across the bay and spend the afternoon at Sam’s Anchor Cafe in Tiburon. Great for cocktails and seafood –  sunscreen is a must.

WEDDING EVENTS

We’ll provide more detail on events leading up to and after the wedding in the coming months. Stay tuned!
